2023 Events

      MARGARET HARWELL ART MUSEUM

 

  • January: “The Art of Catherine “Cat” Vaughn” Opening reception Saturday, January 7, from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. In honor of “Black History Month” which is in February, Cat will be sharing her remarkable art with the people of Southeast Missouri. Her exhibit will carry on through February 26.

  • March: “The K-8th Grade Invitational Art Exhibit” Opening reception is Sunday, March 5th, from 1:00 till 4:00. Cookies and punch will be served. This brings parents from all over and introduces more people to the museum and the arts. Runs through March 26. 

  • April: “23RD Annual Juried High School Art Exhibit” Reception /award ceremony is Sunday, April 2nd, from 1:00 till 4:00 p.m. All Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas Schools are invited to compete for ribbons and cash prizes. Runs through April 30.

  • May: “Missouri Fiber Artists Exposition” May 6 through June 25. Opening reception Saturday, May 6, from 6:00 till 8:00p.m. A variety of artistic styles using fiber. Runs through June 25.

  • May: Don Sahli Plein Air workshop, from the 29th through the 31st. Leads into:

  • June: “The Margaret Harwell Art Museum Plein Air and Family Fun Festival” Opening reception for the artists, Wednesday May 31st. Painting begins June 1st. Family Fun Festival 10:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m., Saturday, June 3rd. Paintings turned in by 1:00 p.m., judging begins. Closing reception/award presentation, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

  • Music Festival at Whitely Park, following the Family Fun, sponsored by the Park Department, 6:00 pm. till ?

  • July: “Art for Animals” Benefit Auction for the Animal Welfare Alliance. Opening reception (“The Un-Leashing”) Friday, the 7th, from 6:00 till 8:00. The closing reception and auction wrap-up is Friday the 28th, from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m.

  • August: “35th Annual Pictures by the People” Opening Reception/award ceremony is Saturday the 5th, from 1:00 till 4:00, an ice Cream Social. Through the 27th. 

  • August: 4-H Animal Art Exhibit, Thursday, August 31, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., through Tuesday, September 12.

  • September: “Mattilyn Grace Stacy, an Emerging Artist” Opening reception is Saturday, the 16th, from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. Only 19 years old, Matty has already done a book cover, been accepted into Missouri Watercolor Society, had a painting accepted for the Barcelona Spain International Exhibit, and had a painting juried into the Watercolor USA competition in Springfield MO. Through October29. She is a protégé of Paul Jackson.

  • October: the 5th Annual Fork + Cork fundraiser. Buffet dinner, wine, and live music!

  • November: Friends Gift Shop Christmas Open House, Saturday, November 4.

  • November: “70th Annual Poplar Buff Artists Guild Juried Regional Art Exhibit” Take-in day is Saturday, October 28. Opening reception and award ceremony is Sunday, November 5, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Runs through the rest of the year.
